Medical & Clinical Affairs Professional

The Challenge

When I sat down to the meeting with a key opinion leader in our industry, I was bombarded with questions unrelated to the topic we agreed to meet on. The meeting spun out of control, covering topics that were much bigger. He told me that he would not want to work with me (and my company) because of my inability to answer the questions being posted. I left the meeting upset, caught off-guard and deflated.

AELP Intervention

I approached this situation with a different lens following the Authentically Empowered Leadership Course that was offered following the US Medical Affairs meeting. I immediately used the techniques that we were discussing in the course and turned them into tactics, changing the narrative into a great opportunity. It raised my energy level by bringing people together to discuss something meaningful for patients and our organization.

The AELP group coaching and practical tools applied below drove successful results:

  • Mindful Stillness during the commute home after meeting

  • Flipped the Narrative which moved me from self-limiting thoughts to innovative solutions shared with cross-functional colleagues

  • Find Your Joy to Raise Energy Frequency Aligning to my Inner Authentic Voice by baking eclairs which is one of my passions

  • Choose Your Thought, Choose Your Energy Level helped me pick a different thought about the key opinion leader

  • Verbalizing No Thank You to manage my Ego narrative (EgoN) and self-limiting thoughts

Driving Impactful Outcomes

Planned cross-functional meeting with department leaders and subject matter experts in January 2021 with the key opinion leader to answer questions and address concerns.

A collaborative research project across multiple departments was initiated with key stakeholders within our company hitting an unmet organizational goal that supports our customers like never before.

Feedback from my Executive Leader

“Yesterday was one of the best examples I have seen of cross-functional departments coming together in front of customers. It was awesome. Feel empowered to drive initiatives like this and to bring others along with you where it’s appropriate.”—VP, Head of US Oncology

As a result, I’ve been approved for additional budget to build out a collaborative research project and now provide regular progress updates to the executive leadership team at my company.

With the success of this project, my manager has supported my ongoing professional and leadership development by supporting my attendance at the Go Slow to Go Faster Retreat in Vandelicourt, France which took place last September 2022. This was a life-changing experience for me.

Future Steps:

I am excited to re-evaluate my current role as I feel empowered to co-create an ideal role that supports the business and my passion.
